Joey Gamper Cuthbert is a leading consultant, speaker, and advocate for athlete welfare, safeguarding, and culture change in cheerleading, dance, and gymnastics. With over 15 years of hands-on experience across the sector, she supports gyms, studios, and competition providers to embed better systems, training, and culture from the inside out.

A trained dancer and former cheerleading athlete, Joey has held roles as a head coach, national team manager, and programme owner. Her extensive safeguarding expertise includes over a decade delivering in-house training and leading safeguarding provision for national and international organisations. She holds multiple certifications, including Designated Safeguarding Officer status, with specialist training in Safeguarding in Sport.

Joey’s career also spans 15 years in education management for UK dance companies and conservatoires, where she led professional development and built youth dance programmes rooted in inclusion, access, and cultural change.
​
She was a founding trustee of ParaCheer International and played a pivotal role in developing the Adaptive Abilities division in cheerleading. In 2017, she managed Team England ParaCheer to a gold medal at the ICU World Championships.

As Chair of the Board for SportCheer England, Joey is a key voice in shaping the future of the sport in England and pushing for formal recognition to raise safeguarding standards nationwide. She is also a member of the Professional Body for Sports Leadership and completed their Leading in the Boardroom certification in Sports Governance in 2022.

Joey regularly speaks at high-profile events and conferences in sport and safeguarding. In 2021, Squad Safe was named a WomanWhoUK Business Award winner, with judges recognising her rapid impact as "a leading force for change" across a complex and diverse sector.
